Heartbeat by Elizabeth Scott

HeartbeatHeartbeat by Elizabeth Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Elizabeth Scott is one of those authors that I will pick up and read without knowing anything about the story, I always enjoy them.
In Heartbeat I was confronted with a character who I did particularly like very much. Emma, who is grieving for her mother, was not very likeable for me…. until I got to know her a bit better. I understood that she was grieving but it didn’t make her attitude or behaviour OK for me. As I was reading though, I felt that she knew the way she was acting wasn’t good and even that she didn’t want to be like that. It was a heartwarming experience to watch her break through the fog of grief that was surrounding her, with the help of Caleb, and to begin to live and love again.

Blood Phantom (Lharmell, #0.5)Blood Phantom by Rhiannon Hart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This short story took me back to the beginning and listening to it from Rodden’s POV was a tasty little reminder of everything that has happened and everything that is still to happen! Zeraphina was always one of my favourite characters and this story shows us how Rodden first ‘met’ her. It was good to hear his uncertainty but yet still feel his pull to Zeraphina. And it made me smile listening to Prince Amis who was practically giddy with the prospect of falling in love with Lilith. Ahhh, the memories of the first two books in this series all came rushing back and this is the one warning I give anyone who reads this short story….make sure you have copies of the first two books, Blood Song and Blood Storm on hand because you will feel the urge to pick them up and read them again so you can go back into this world of Lharmell. This was a great little read and now I am ready for book three!!!

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sydney and Adrian…Adrian and Sydney. I generally do like switching point of views in books and this was no exception. In the beginning (VA days) I didn’t warm to Sydney but this series has totally turned me. I am now a big fan. And while I was always an Adrian fan, this series has just made me love him even more. I just can’t get enough of him and Sydney!!
This book has been my fave in this series, along with all of the Adrian and Sydney, we also got to see all of the regulars…. Jill and Eddie, Angeline and Trey were back, Mrs Trewinger and even some appearances of the old VA gang. Sydney’s alchemist sister Zoe is a large player in this story and I am holding out some hope for her to do something special in the next book.
The thrills and adventure were there, the mystery and intrigue had its place and there was also the fun and good times. And did I mention I love Adrian and Sydney.
Oh sigh…… now it is over again, time to go back to waiting for the next book.

Man Made BoyMan Made Boy by Jon Skovron
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was awesome!! I love the idea of all of these magical monsters living in communes around the world (although it is sad that most of them have to stay hidden away) and Boy, the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the Monster’s bride, was a brilliant character to spend time with. Very much a coming of age story with teenage angst, restrictions and parents…. Breaking the rules, romance and finding out who you really are. Oh, and lots of little adventures along the way (dragon flying, trying to talk to The Sphinx, feeding Medusa rats….) The story was twice as good when Claire/Sophie appeared, grand-daughter of Jekyll/Hyde, they really taught Boy a lot about life, love, having fun and taking risks.
Such a different story but now that I loved.

Empower by Jessica Shirvington

Empower (The Violet Eden Chapters, #5)Empower by Jessica Shirvington
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh. My. Goodness.
This book gave me all the feelings! I have loved every book in this series and having only recently finished book four, I was very excited to start this one, the final book in the series. And it did not disappoint. Apart from stopping for dinner, I read the story in one sitting. Violet, Lincoln and Phoenix are just as interesting as they were when I first met them and there were times, so many times that I felt like my heart was scrunched up into a tiny ball and it was all I could do not to flip to the last page… Which I didn’t!
Apart from Vi, Linc and Phoenix all of the great secondary characters are back and there are some new ones thrown in as well. So many awesome characters that all played a part in the story. This book was filled with emotion, and excitement and so much action and laughter and swoon. The swoon was amazing.
This series is one of my favourites and while I am sad it has ended, the ending was perfect.
