When We CollidedWhen We Collided by Emery Lord
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a four and half star read for me. I really, really liked it and it was so easy to read. I connected with the characters, Jonah and Vivi were both stars in this book, no matter how much they sometimes drove me crazy. The alternating chapters gave a good insight into the different aspects of the story.
I don’t want to give anything away but I found this story and the portrayal of the characters authentic and very real, which I think is one reason I was slightly frustrated, because this was just an example of a true story and what different experiences people go through. I really liked there were characters who understood that it is ok to be sad and to feel things and we don’t always have to be happy.
There were many passages that were written flawlessly and expressed the feelings and situations in such a beautiful way. Overall, A great 4 1/2 star read.

“I know I act like I don’t have a care in the world…. but Jonah, I’ve prowled the dirtiest back alleys of sadness, okay? And I know what it’s like to fight for your life on those mean streets. So if you need someone to vent to or someone to be quiet with or someone to talk you ear off, I can be that person. I’m not scared of the dark places.” pg. 89

‘Even the constellations can see us now: we are seventeen and shattered and still dancing. We have messy, throbbing hearts, and we are stronger than anyone could ever know.’ pg. 185

“I’ve always loved The Wizard of Oz, you know? Every girl wants to be Dorothy Gale or maybe Glinda. I never wanted to be the tornado.” pg. 317

This Raging LightThis Raging Light by Estelle Laure
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a good read, although it wasn’t quite as heart-capturing as I was hoping it would be. There was a lot going on throughout the story and I felt that I didn’t quite get enough from some parts of the story. I connected with the main character Lucille, and could feel the love between her and her younger sister Wren, after their father cut himself off from the family and then their mother disappeared. I also enjoyed the relationships Lucille had with her best friend and her best friends brother – who she ended up realising she was in love with. While I felt that the story was a bit choppy, I can also understand that this fits in with the live that Lucille was living.
The ending came very quickly and I did wonder if the last few pages of my book were missing.
Overall, a good read with characters that were authentic and likeable.

Every Last WordEvery Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a book that I read quite quickly and was written in the style that connected with me straight away. I really liked the main character and lived the story through her eyes, which I am glad I did because when things started to become clearer at the end of the story, I was as surprised as Samantha was. I fell in love with Poet’s corner and what happened in this room was great – I wanted to go there myself.
I don’t have any in depth experience with OCD but I found this story was a thoughtful and honest representation of living a life with OCD. There was definitely some intense stuff to work through but also enough positive situations and moments to balance it out.

Review based on free digital copy from NetGalley with thanks to Disney Book Group.

Wild AwakeWild Awake by Hilary T. Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow. I want to say that this was such a full on read. I was expecting a fun, slightly coming of age story with a girl and a guy and music. And it was all of that but so much more. As I got into the story and got to know Kiri, I felt like I was losing myself in her fractured yet solid world. She was all over the place yet seemed to know exactly where she was going. And Skunk. What can I say about Skunk. He was just as broken as Kiri and it was like they were two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly.
There were so many elements to the story; grief, anger, trust, determination, denial, acceptance but love was always there as well.
And that title. It is the perfect title for this book.
