Origin (Lux, #4)Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Daemon and Katy are back – ready to fight off everything that is thrown their way. These books are such a fun read – lots of action and lots of swoon with a bit of humour and intrigue thrown into the mix. Each and every one of the ‘Lux’ books has an awesome ending, leaving me to sigh heavily and utter the words ‘WTF – did that really juts happen’….. and this one didn’t disappoint. As usual, I am now left waiting in anticipation for the next one!

Crash into You (Pushing the Limits, #3)Crash into You by Katie McGarry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Crash into You is the 3rd instalment of the ‘Pushing the Limits’ series. First we met Noah and Echo, then it was Beth and Ryan and now it is Isaiah’s turn. I have always liked Isaiah and in Crash into You we get to see inside his head a bit more and work out what makes him tick. Along comes Rachel who is his opposite in every way, except for their shared love for cars. I will admit I am a fan of the ‘Fast and Furious’ films and so I really enjoyed all of the parts of the story that were about the cars, or driving the cars, or fixing the cars or racing the cars!! But if you don’t like cars, then don’t worry – the story still has lots of other things going for it – dominating family’s, panic attacks, social worker, a mum who is recently released from prison and some fancy charity dinners. Noah and Beth are also both involved in the story as well as a new character who I just love – Abby. And of course – there is the swoon which is a big factor in all of Katie McGarry’s books! And then that ending – woah!!
Crash into You was exactly what I expected – a good read, with characters I like and swoon – something to get away from every day life with!
………………………………………………………………

So glad that Isaiah got a book!! And not only that, this book had cars too, another one of my loves. Katie McGarry can write teenage swoon so well. Full review to come.

Shadows (The Rephaim, #1)Shadows by Paula Weston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*updated
I really don’t know what to say about this book, it is kind of like …..words can’t describe! After reading quite a few great reviews of Shadows I couldn’t help but buy a copy for myself. I remember picking it up and reading the first few pages and then the rest is a blur. A blur because I got so caught up in the world that Paula Weston has created that I lost track of time and it wasn’t like I was reading a book anymore, it was like I was a part of the story. Straight away I connected with the characters and the way that the setting was described, I felt as if I was right there along side the characters. Gabe/Gaby was fantastic. She was this independent kick-ass girl who couldn’t explain the dreams of demons and hell-spawn that she was having every night and then when the boy that was also in her dreams (not as ‘boy of her dreams’ but ‘boy who was killing demons and hell-spawn in her dreams’) turned up in real life, well she was floored. And so we meet Rafa… the sexy bad boy who comes up with snarky smart ass comments yet can make a girl melt. The relationship between Gabe and Rafa was awesome, it was intense and deep and angry…and Rafa certainly made me swoon. Swoon big time. Gabe and Rafa played off each so well and I know I was reading through the book holding my breath for their next interaction. But it wasn’t just them. The fighting and the action was exciting and it made me almost flip through the pages in a frenzy. The secondary characters were also fantastic, they fitted in so well and were made up of the perfect mix of the good guys and the bad guys, and the bad guys who may be actually good guys, and the good guys who might be bad guys but then you decide are actually good guys – My heart is racing just thinking about the story as I type this!! All in all, in case you can’t tell, I LOVED this book, loved everything about it….
The only bad thing I can say is….. when I realised I was at the end and that I would have to wait for book two 😦
This book is definitely a keeper, I will be re-reading it and I know it will be on my best books of 2012 list.

The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2)The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Updated, 22/6/2012
Well damn, damn, damn…I just can’t cope with endings like that one! The second book in the Bloodlines series did not disappoint. The characters I love are all back…Eddie, Jill, Sydney and Adrian (of course). There are some support roles from characters from VA including Dimitri and Sonya and everything just fits in nicely. When the story started I was asking myself why I had thought that I liked Sydney from the first book. She was prickly, super organised, not much fun…I couldn’t work it out. But the same thing happened in this book as it did in the first, she just grew on me and I fell in love with her again. I always liked Rose from VA – her boldness and brashness, saying whatever she thought and also her kick ass fighting skills. In The Golden Lily, Sydney shows us what she is made of. She is super smart, loves research and information (that must be the librarian in me coming out!!) and she takes control of situations without even breaking a sweat. Plus she has a soft spot for Adrian.
I must admit, the first half of the book I was wishing it would hurry up and get a bit more of Adrian in the story but by halfway I was totally hooked on the story – there are lots of little bits and pieces going on and I was trying to pick up on clues about who might be part of the ‘vampire hunters’ and were the alchemists involved and just who is this Marcus character – hope he makes an appearance in book three!! The last 100 pages just flew by and I loved the action scenes, my eyes were tearing across the pages as I was holding my breath to see what would happen.
And if I haven’t made myself clear, I am an Adrian fan. a BIG Adrian fan. Any scene that included Adrian and Sydney was just delicious to read and some of those scenes..well….they got my heart pounding.
Bring on Book Three!!

18/6/2012 Sorry to the other book I am reading.. But…. This one has Adrian. That says it all really!

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)Insurgent by Veronica Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved Divergent so much that I was waiting and waiting and waiting for Insurgent to come out, and because I think that Veronica Roth wrote such an excellent book with Divergent, I was never worried that Insurgent wouldn’t be as good…..and I am happy to say that I loved Insurgent just as much.
I listened to this one on audiobook and it was great. There were so many different things going on, so many characters returning from Divergent that I grew so much closer to, many people dying, many people showing their true colours and loyalties. There was so much action, so much adventure and still loads of thoughtful and serious discussions between characters. And then there were Tris and Tobias. Ahh Tobias, gosh I love him so. As with the first book, Tobias couldn’t do a thing wrong in my mind and sometimes I could almost visualise his heart bursting with love for Tris. And good ole Tris, still a very independent girl who does what she believes is the right thing to do (I did have a few exclamations of ‘Oh Tris, don’t do that..just tell Tobias the truth and he will help you…’ but I am a bit of a ‘shining knight comes along to save the day’ kinda girl. And in the end I felt that Tris and Tobias’s relationship was solid, real and full of everything it should be.
And that ending…wow..I really didn’t see that coming and after picking my jaw up off the floor, I sighed with anticipation for book 3.

Timepiece (Hourglass, #2)Timepiece by Myra McEntire
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow..I loved this book!! I really liked the first one in this series, Hourglass, and I enjoyed Timepiece even more. As with the first book this one was full of mystery, intrigue with action and adventure thrown in for good measure. The characters relationships were perfect and while in book one I fell in love with Emmerson and Michael, in this book it was Kaleb and Lily that stole the show, although Em was still fantastic. I couldn’t read this one quick enough and my brain was working the whole time trying to work out what was really going on, who to trust and even who was real. A great book to get lost in…

Obsidian (Lux, #1)Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Okey Dokey then, so Jennifer L Armentrout is definitely an author that I can read if I want to get my swoon on! I have really enjoyed her other books as fun and exciting reads and Obsidian didn’t disappoint. I really liked the female MC, Katy – she is funny, loyal, brave, snarky..just like a typical teenager! And Daemon, without giving it too much thought (it is just a fun and exciting read after all), he is so swoon-worthy it was enough to make steam blow out my ears!
This was just the kind of book that I was looking for, there was a great story line with twists and turns, action and adventure, some laughs and some swoon. Nothing too difficult to think about but just a good book to sit back and flip through the pages quicker and quicker to get to the end….and now I really want to read the second book …reviews I have read lead me to believe that it is even better (and smokin’ hotter) than Obsidian!

Obsidian, 55% of the way through (thanks Kindle)
“Using his hands, he lowered himself slowly. There wasn’t an inch of space between our bodies. Air fled my lungs at the contact of his bidy against mine. He was male and ripped in all the places I was soft. Being this close to him was startling, causing an array of sensations to zing through me. I shivered. Not from the cold, but from how warm and wonderful he felt. I could feel every breath he took, and when he shifted his hips, my eyes went wide and I gasped.
Oh yeah, certain stuff was definitely working.”

Something Like NormalSomething Like Normal by Trish Doller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Updated 28/4/2012 I can’t quite explain why I love this book so much and I can’t seem to find any words strong enough to describe the book, or how I feel about it! I have read it three times now and it is one those books that is like, when you read it you are catching up with old friends (Jellicoe Road and Saving June are also like this for me). Travis, returning home for a few weeks after being in Afganistan meets up with Harper, a girl who he once kissed when he was 13. Their developing relationship is great to watch – there is no instalove involved, it isn’t all doves and roses, it is just so believable and so real. I love Harper, she is strong, independent and basically knows what she wants. She is a good person.

And now Travis, who is the voice of the story…what can I say about Travis. He is…very normal. He has made/makes a few mistakes but he is honest and sweet and a bit scared and a bit broken. (He has been fighting in Afganistan so this isn’t surprising). There were so many times that I just wanted to wrap Travis up and try to make things OK for him, but this was the beautiful and heartbreaking part of the story, watching him go through that journey…re-living memories of his time in Afganistan and then wondering if things will be normal again, if he will be normal again.

Travis, and Harper..(but mostly Travis) have firmly lodged themselves in my heart. The only other thing I can say is…READ THIS BOOK!

Updated 25/4/2012 Ok, well i cant help myself and i have to read this again!! I need me some Harper and Travis…..

17/3/2012 OMG. Loved this story so, so, so much. So good, so beautiful, so heartbreaking. It is now in my list of fave books……sigh……..

Fracture by Megan Miranda

FractureFracture by Megan Miranda
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has a lot going for it. There is a bit of suspense, a bit of swoon, a few laughs and a few slightly scary ‘don’t go out side’ moments! It was an easy to read and turned out to be a page turner, rushing to find out what was happening. I connected with Delaney, to the point of talking to her throughout the book. ‘Delaney, don’t do that’…’Delaney, just tell him’….’Delaney, Delaney, Delaney..lock your doors and stay inside’! And I found Decker very nice, very cute, very reliable although slightly..shall we say..under the thumb. All in all though, this was a good read. There were a number of well written side characters who I either liked, or didn’t like but who stayed mostly in the background but Delaney’s voice was strong and I went through uncertainty, questioning everything and a feeling of being alone..at the same time as she did.
The story was all mostly tied up by the end and so I am feeling fairly satisfied with no gasps or sighs of ‘when is the next book coming out’.

Past Perfect by Leila Sales

Past PerfectPast Perfect by Leila Sales
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh my, what a delightful, enjoyable, fun easy to read book! I wanted something nice and light to read and this was exactly what I was looking for. I got so caught up in the story that I could barely put it down. The story was set around a community of ‘re-enactments/re-enactors’, tourist destinations that reenact important times and places of the past eg. the US Civil War. There are two very similar ‘re-enactment villages’ that are basically across the road from each other the teenagers that work in each, conduct a very real war each summer. Stunts like placing telephones strategically around the village (because these telephones didn’t exist back in 1770), or sticking confederate flags on peoples windscreens – stunts like these were pulled by kids from each side and if things got a bit out of control, the two groups met for war council, at the local ice-cream shop. I smiled and laughed and giggled at the malarky!!

But there was also a bit of a serious side. Girls, realising that they are trying to be someone else just to be the person they think their boyfriend wants, friends best friends being honest with each other, teenagers just trying to find their place. The author captures the teen voice extremely well and has developed some strong characters. I found myself just wanting to go and get a job at the re-enactment village and hang out with Chelsea and Fiona (who on a side note have decided to also become ice-cream connoisseurs and are working their way through every imaginable flavour of ice-cream!!).

And lastly… Dan. Oh Dan. What a sweet, funny, slightly damaged swoon-worthy boy you turned out to be. Even though you are fighting on the wrong side of the war.

Quotes:

“Also, he was kind of cute. Not really, of course, since he was the enemy, and the enemy cannot possibly be cute. He was only cute enough to make me wish I could free my hands so that I could fix my hair. I mean, fix my hair, then punch him in the face, and then run.” – said by Chelsea

…………………………………..

“My enemy is actually my friend if I have another enemy who is also the enemy of my first enemy.” – said by Fiona

………………………………….

“Don’t get me wrong, I love my parents and all. But my father and I have the sort of loving relationship in which, whenever he says more than one sentence in a a row to me, I want to stab myself in the heart with a a recently formed silver knife.” – said by Chelsea

………………………………….

“We shouldn’t be doing this.” Dan broke the silence, his voice low. “We would both get in trouble.” He stood up. “Let’s go back.”

“We shouldn’t be doing what?” I scrambled to my feet. “What exactly are we doing?”

“This.”

“You mean consorting?”

“Sure, consorting. Cavorting. Carousing.” He paused to take a deep breath.

“Kissing.” Then he leaned in and pressed his mouth to mine.” – said by Dan and Chelsea
