This Shattered World (Starbound, #2)This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you want a book with a great story and fantastic characters, a book with twists and turns and edge of your seat tension and thrills, a book with grief and friendship and love, as well as a few spaceships thrown in, then this book is for you.
I loved the story and while it was about war and the two sides of war and what desperate people will do during war, it was also about the good people who have compassion. That was only one part of the story though!
Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac, each from different sides, end up discovering that something is not as it seems and together they fight their way to uncover the truth. The ending was awesome and I can hardly wait now for book three.

Head of the RiverHead of the River by Pip Harry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Who would have thought a book about rowing could have grabbed me like this one did!! I loved the alternating chapters between sister and brother Leni and Cristian, it was extra interesting to hear from both of them. They were both under so much pressure to win, even though I don’t think their parents were purposefully trying to put pressure on them, i felt that both parents wanted the best for Leni and Cristian and wanted them to be happy, but they didn’t actually stop to find out what it was that would make Leni and Cristian happy.
The way that the book started out, you know that something bad has happened to someone and throughout the story, I was trying to put the pieces together to work out who it was, and when it happened, it wasn’t shocking but it hit hard.
Overall, this was a story about family and friends, what you do for other people and what you do when you are trying to find yourself. A good, hopeful story tinged with sadness.

Everything about it is beautiful, the romance, the friendships, the love and the heartbreak.

A perfect happily ever after.

Hold StillHold Still by Nina LaCour
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book grabbed me with its pain and sadness, I felt the grief and gut wrenching guilt deep inside and then the peace and hope slowly brought it to its end. Nina LaCour writes beautifully and there were so many passages that I copied from this book to look back on. I read this in two sittings and both times, I was captivated and totally inside the story, I felt like I was part of Caitlin and that I was actually feeling everything that she felt. Grieving for her best friend is one thing but then finding her best friends diary and reading it brought Caitlin to a whole other level of guilt and while part of me wanted to scream at Caitlin to stop pushing people away, another part of me just wanted to let Caitlin be by herself, in her treehouse.
I think I cried more in the end part of the story, reflecting on everything that had happened, acknowledging that things don’t remain the same and looking forward to things that are still to happen.
Caitlin was such a believable character who I connected with in every way and then don’t get me started on Dylan, Maddy, Jayson and Taylor…..exactly the kind of people I wanted around Caitlin.
Death, sadness, coffee, kissing and friendship – this book had it all. And now I think i might stick it under my mattress, just to have close.

‘My best friend is dead, and I could have saved her. It’s so wrong, so completely and painfully wrong, that I walked through my front door tonight smiling.’ – pg. 91

‘This is how it feels to have friends. It isn’t something fleeting. It won’t end when I walk out the door.’ – pg. 198

‘It isn’t the happy ending that Ingrid and I had dreamed up, but it’s all a part of what I’m working through. The way life changes. The way people and things disappear. Then appear, unexpectedly, and hold you close.’ – pg. 228

Sweet PerilSweet Peril by Wendy Higgins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much (Sweet Evil) that I had to start listening to this one straight away. And it didn’t disappoint, in fact I think I liked it more than the first one. I should say there were a few minor things that annoyed me but the good things totally outweighed them. This book is all about the neph’s and their fathers and it takes us all around the world. Anna and her father have a plan and to make this plan happen, they need some allies and so Anna ends up flying around the world trying to convince other neph’s to help her out when the time came.
I was pleased to see that the twins, Blake, Cope and Kaiden were all back and I enjoyed watching their individual relationships with Anna. And while I really liked the sparks between Kaiden and Anna in the first book… in this book their relationship went to a whole new level! Talk about swoon!
There were a few near-misses and ‘crap-lets hide’ moments but overall, this book is like the background for book three – where I am expecting some serious thrills, spills and bloodshed.

Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy, #1)Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I listened to this on audiobook and to begin with I found the narrators voice annoying but then she kind of grew on me. And that is the same as the book. I was listening to it and enjoying it but not loving it but then about half way through something happened and then all of a sudden I was invested in the story and the characters. I kind of found Anna annoying but at the same time I liked her – don’t know what is up with that? I liked reading about the different demons and the neph and how they worked to tempt and ruin humans and I have to say, Kaiden made me swoon – big time. The same as the story and Anna, to begin with I didn’t like him and then all of a sudden, on that road trip, I was like ‘hell yeah Kai’.
Overall would probably give it 3.5 stars but i have downloaded the second book and started listening to it straight away so obviously I am keen to find out what happens. I am sensing a battle between good and evil.

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1)Angelfall by Susan Ee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read my fair share of angel themed books, but I can’t say I have read one that is anything like this one! I loved Penryn, she really is brave and loyal and kick-ass as well as sometimes being just a normal 17 year old girl. There was so much going on I felt like I read the book in an hour. The end of the world landscape with empty houses and abandoned cars on the highway turned into hiding out from angels in old office buildings and eating cat food. In the world of angels against humans the pairing of Penryn and Raffe was perfect. Set up with little trust and only as the means to an end it was enjoyable watching their relationship develop. Throw in soldiers, demons, cannibalism, an angel nightclub and what more could you want. Penryn’s mother was extremely interesting and I feel there is a lot more to that part of the story and then the ending…… What the? That room at the end, and the ‘things’ and the wings and what was being done to the children….. I seriously can not wait to get right onto the next book!

Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1)Graceling by Kristin Cashore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I originally read this one a few years ago and was wanting to read ‘Fire’ and ‘Bitterblue’ and so decided to read this again to set the scene. And set the scene it did. I remembered about half of the story and remembered that it had all of the things I love – kick ass girls, swords and daggers, magic, surviving the elements while the evil villain is chasing you down…. and a bit of swoon.

Graceling was all this and so much more. I love the characters – Bitterblue is such a sweet yet strong little girl, Po is intelligent, brave and knows how to smile and then there is Katsa – so strong and fearless, confident and smart and yet when she breaks, you see just how vulnerable she can be. She was a fantastic character who I immediately connected with. The adventures and travels that she ends up on are full of interesting, scary, beautiful and heart-racing people and places and you can’t help but to hold your breath to find out what exactly is going to happen on the next page.

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sydney and Adrian…Adrian and Sydney. I generally do like switching point of views in books and this was no exception. In the beginning (VA days) I didn’t warm to Sydney but this series has totally turned me. I am now a big fan. And while I was always an Adrian fan, this series has just made me love him even more. I just can’t get enough of him and Sydney!!
This book has been my fave in this series, along with all of the Adrian and Sydney, we also got to see all of the regulars…. Jill and Eddie, Angeline and Trey were back, Mrs Trewinger and even some appearances of the old VA gang. Sydney’s alchemist sister Zoe is a large player in this story and I am holding out some hope for her to do something special in the next book.
The thrills and adventure were there, the mystery and intrigue had its place and there was also the fun and good times. And did I mention I love Adrian and Sydney.
Oh sigh…… now it is over again, time to go back to waiting for the next book.

Empower by Jessica Shirvington

Empower (The Violet Eden Chapters, #5)Empower by Jessica Shirvington
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh. My. Goodness.
This book gave me all the feelings! I have loved every book in this series and having only recently finished book four, I was very excited to start this one, the final book in the series. And it did not disappoint. Apart from stopping for dinner, I read the story in one sitting. Violet, Lincoln and Phoenix are just as interesting as they were when I first met them and there were times, so many times that I felt like my heart was scrunched up into a tiny ball and it was all I could do not to flip to the last page… Which I didn’t!
Apart from Vi, Linc and Phoenix all of the great secondary characters are back and there are some new ones thrown in as well. So many awesome characters that all played a part in the story. This book was filled with emotion, and excitement and so much action and laughter and swoon. The swoon was amazing.
This series is one of my favourites and while I am sad it has ended, the ending was perfect.
